Dr. Sara Baxter Seymour joined the Foundation for Vision Research team in 2021. She is board certified in Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease and Diagnostic/Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents by the International Association of Boards of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Seymour completed her undergraduate education at Michigan State University before obtaining both a Bachelor of Science in Vision Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees from Michigan College of Optometry, where she graduated with honors. While there she also
received the Marchon Practice Management Award for the most outstanding clinical skills in practice management and the Original Investigative Work Research Award.
She completed her internships at Grand Rapids VA Medical Center, Balian Eye Center/Michigan Eye Institute and Duane Waters Hospital at the State Prison of Southern Michigan. Those educational experiences cultivated a passion for treating ocular disease, especially in underserved communities. This led her to Chicago to further her education with a residency in Ocular Disease and Primary Care at Illinois College of Optometry/Illinois Eye Institute. Upon graduation, she worked in private practice in Ann Arbor before moving to Grand Rapids and working at the Grand Rapids VA Outpatient Clinic. She has also practiced optometry on multiple mission trips to Dominica, West Indies, through VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity).
Her passion and drive for helping people made FVR the perfect fit. She is excited to be part of a team that works tirelessly to enable more patients to receive cutting-edge care to prevent and treat vision loss while also contributing to advancements on a global scale to improve quality of life. Dr. Seymour and her husband have a daughter and three sons and enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially on the ski slopes or anywhere on the water. She has been on the Board of Directors at Grand Rapids Interscholastic Sailing and the White Lake Yacht Club and is also active in her church, schools, and community.
